Banff Photo Contest Winners

Winners of the 2007 Banff Mountain Photography Competition have been announced—17 prizes from more than 2,100 entries. You can see all the winners here. Marc Adamus of Oregon took the grand prize for a windy winter image, but I can't stop looking at the winner in the "Best Photo–Mountain Environment" category: Marc Piscotty's "Iron Mountain Fire," shot in 2002 near Canon City, Colorado. This striking image of a slurry bomber looks like a computer composite or poster from a science fiction movie, but it's the real thing.

i just wandered across your blog and we probably know some of the same people. I climb, though not at your level. I also work with in the graphic and visual effects post production world. Our six degrees would be I do alot of work for josh lowell. Effects, titles, design and stuff. The image is amazingly hyperreal. To create such an image in CG would take weeks with a crew of specialists. It is amazing that a photo can capture the phoenix being reborn in the fire retardant. i need to contact marc piscotty about a print.
